Working @ SocWeB

We encourage all new and prospective members of SocWeB to read about our collective research philosophy, values, and intent for real-world impact here.

Prospective PhD Students, Pre- and Postdocs @ The SocWeB Lab:

We are always looking forward to working with motivated and self-driven folks interested to work on problems that bear real-world impact. The problems we explore in our lab require computational rigor, interdisciplinary investigation, and a passion for addressing outstanding challenges facing our societies and worlds today. If you are interested in potentially getting involved in the Lab, please fill out this form. It will ask for a link to your CV/resume, programming/research skills, any publications, webpage/codebase etc.

If you email Dr. De Choudhury (that’s how she likes to be addressed), please use the following phrase in your subject of your email, to make sure your email gets our attention: “[SocWeB Lab Interest]”.

However, instead of waiting for a response to your email (because we get way too many and sometimes it is not practical for Dr. De Choudhury to respond to all such emails), if you are a prospective PhD student, the best option is to apply to the Georgia Tech PhD in Computer Science, Human Centered Computing, or Machine Learning program(s) as a first step. You may want to read the program requirements of each of these to learn of the expectations and whether your application could be a good fit. Dr. De Choudhury is unable to provide feedback to individual potential applicants on their chances of getting admitted, as the admissions process is administered at the School level. However, if you are interested in working in SocWeB, please enlist Dr. De Choudhury’s name in your application and in describing your research interests, so it is brought to her attention.

If you are at Georgia Tech, you may want to take one of the classes Dr. De Choudhury teaches or connect with members of SocWeB to find out if there are opportunities to get involved.

The lab rarely funds undergraduate or Masters students who have not taken a class with Dr. De Choudhury or have not worked with the Lab in some capacity. We also rarely take self-funded off-campus students for short-term projects or summer internships, though there are always some exceptions.

Current Members @ The SocWeB Lab:

Every new joinee of SocWeB needs to fill out this onboarding form, so that they are set up with the right types of physical, virtual, and infrastructural access. Please also refer to this handbook for relevant information about participating in SocWeB.
